Double Pocket Card with Bookmarks

Our Club projects this month featured both of the Tag Topper Punches.  They are awesome for tags, bookmarks, and more!  Today I will show the Double Pocket Card that we made, and tomorrow I will show the Tag Topper Punch Closure Card that we made.  You can use either the Scallop Tag Topper or the Angled Tag Topper punch for these projects, so pick your favorite!

Here’s a better view of the parts of this card.  There are two pockets on the card front, and we made bookmarks for each pocket.  The bookmarks are 2″ strips of cardstock, 4 1/4″ and 4 3/4″ long, each punched with the Angled Tag Topper Punch (Item 133323, $22.95, Occasions Catalog p 35).

The pockets would also be great for notes or gift cards – especially the gift cards that already come on cards or folders.  Those tend to be a bit large for our typical gift card holder projects, and sometimes they are really cute, too.  Aren’t the stores getting clever about marketing gift cards?  Oops, I am digressing!

This is a standard card size (4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″), and it opens to a very pretty designer paper interior.  It is shown here with a Whisper White mat on one side to write on.

Please don’t dismiss this project because it looks challenging – it is not nearly as complicated as it looks!  Really!  The base is made from one 8 1/2″ x 11″ sheet of designer paper.  Here is the card base, opened up.

We have all made cards from an 8 1/2″ x 11″ sheet of paper, right?  Fold it in half, and in half again.  This is very similar.  I scored the paper in half in both directions.  To get the angled edges, I scored and folded at 4 1/4″ on my diagonal plate.  Then, I rotated the paper 180 degrees and scored and folded at 5 1/4″ on my diagonal plate.  I added a little scallop trim along the diagonal folds in this example.

Then, I cut along one score line – in the photo above, the horizontal score line is cut from the left edge to the center of the paper.  Once that cut is made, the card folds as shown below.

I love projects that show off both sides of our designer paper!!  The paper shown above is from our Sweet Sorbet designer series paper (DSP).  You can get a pack of this paper for free during Sale-a-bration with any $50 order.  There are 12 sheets in a pack, 2 each of 6 double-sided designs.  Sale-a-bration runs through March 31.

I couldn’t stop there, though.  My next thought was “Retro Fresh”!  How different the same design looks with different paper!  This is Retro Fresh DSP from the Occasions Catalog, also available in packs of 12 sheets, 2 each of 6 double-sided designs for $10.95.

Through May 31, if you place an online order of $35 or more (before s/h and tax), I will send you a Double Pocket Card with bookmarks made with Retro Fresh DSP…the patterns and colors are so fun!  I will not seal up the pockets, though – that way you can open up the card base to examine and copy the construction (see picture below).  This is a pattern and a finished project in one!

Also remember that Sale-a-bration is on through March 31.  If your order is $50 or more, you will can choose one of the Sale-a-bration freebies, like the Sweet Sorbet designer paper collection used above.  Click here to look at the Sale-a-bration brochure.  The free choices can be found on pages 11-17, and you can enter your selection on your online order.  Please contact me if you have any questions, or if you would like me to enter your order.  Or click “Shop Now” at the top of my home page to go to the online store.
