In all fairness, my Pinterest “Fail” should probably be considered more of a “Disappointment” than a “Fail”. Maybe you have seen the pin about cooking your Cuttlebug plates to make them look like new. We have talked about it in my classes on several occasions, and of course, we concluded that it should work on Big Shot Cutting Pads, too. Why not? So I tried it.
My Cutting Pads get a lot of use. Here is the “Before” shot…
And after cooking at 325F for 30 minutes, wrapped in foil, under the weight of other cooking vessels…
It did come out very flat, but wasn’t very smooth, and the trapped cardstock did not brush away from the grooves as it did in the author’s trial.
So, of course, the logical thing to do was to cook the next plate for a longer period, right? It’s not rocket science – I left that baby in for an hour!
Yes indeed, this made the surface smoother, and some of the cardstock scrap did brush away. However, if you look at the corners (especially at the bottom left ) you can see the outline of the Pyrex dish that was being used as a weight. The plastic started to bulge around the weight, and the whole thing behaved like a Shrinky Dink!
The two plates I cooked are pictured below. The top one is the plate that was cooked longer, and it is now over 1/4″ narrower in the middle and bulged at the corners.
Please let me know if you have had better success with this – and how?! For now, it looks like I won’t be able to avoid replacing my Cutting Pads periodically.
