I learned how to make this lovely “Box in a Card” at an event put on by Mindy Gray and Candy Michael in Columbus last weekend . The card acts as an easel for one of our Clear Tiny Treat Boxes. A section of the card that measures 2″ wide and 1 3/4″ deep is cut out from the folded side of the card to hold the box.
Mindy and Candy also suggested that this could be a place holder at a table setting – what a sweet way to present a favor at a special dinner! I CASEd the idea to use in my clubs this month. Both of our versions use the Painted Autumn designer paper. Theirs also used the Painted Harvest Bundle.
My version is a little smaller, and I used the Pick a Pumpkin Bundle and the new Everyday Label Punch.
The greeting is from “Labels to Love”.
Here’s a look at how the box nests into the card.
I added a name tag to the top of the box.
I have a series of pictures that show how I cut the Early Espresso Card Base. You can use this concept in any size card. I started with a 4″ x 8″ piece of Early Espresso, scored at 4″.
Start by making the lengthwise cuts, 1″ from either edge.
Score between the endpoints of those cut lines.
Then, cut out a chunk of the cardstock as shown below. You can do this with scissors if you prefer, cutting about 1/2″ from each score line to create tabs.
The finished base is shown below, ready to decorate.
It is easiest to decorated before creating the tent. Add Tear-n-tape to one of the tabs to use later when assembling.
I added a 2″ x 4″ piece of designer paper, a pumpkin and a tag. The bow on my pumpkin is made from one ply of the Jute Twine.
Once decorated, reveal the tape and overlap the flaps to create a shelf for the box.
If you prefer, you can create a 2″ square box from designer paper to fit the cut-out.
