I presented this fun layout in many forms last night on Facebook Live. There are so many great things about it. It’s simple and adaptable to any occasion. It stretches your designer paper, and it leaves many great options for a greeting (make sure to look through all of the examples to see this).
All of the cards shown today have a standard base (5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″, scored at 4 1/4″) and two mats. In the card shown above, the Bumblebee mat measures 4 1/8″ x 5 3/8″, and the Whisper White measures 4″ x 5 1/4″.
The black plaid designer paper started as a 2 3/4″ x 4 3/4″ rectangle. It is cut at an angle, starting at 1 1/2″ below the top edge at left and finishing at 1/2″ below the top edge at right. This creates the trapezoid pieces.
Check out all of the examples below to see how I have used pieces with these same dimensions for many different looks.
I started by mixing and matching the trapezoid pieces. Note that every arrangement will leave the complementary pieces for another card (in the case of the pumpkin, I have the remaining upper trapezoid in plaid and the lower trapezoid in Basic Gray for another card.)
Note how I used a Whisper White piece to accommodate a bigger greeting on the Haunted House card.
On the card on the left, I used designer paper for my 4″ x 5 1/4″ mat.
Our coordinating papers are perfect for this layout. These are from the Trimming the Town collection.
In this case, I needed a wider strip for my greeting, so I cut 1/4″ off the bottom of my Old Olive striped paper. These stamps are from “Tag Buffet”.
