I thought this week’s colors called for a big greeting and bold shapes, so I used “Watercolor Words” with stars.
I heat-embossed stars from “Watercolor Words” on the black card base with black embossing powder. I added a strip of designer paper from the Botanical collection before adding my stars. There is a strip of burlap behind the tag, and I added a mix of ribbon, linen thread, and sequins to make it interesting.
Thank you for visiting! I hope you’ll continue on to Create with Connie and Mary to see the cards created by my talented teammates. Entries will be posted there, too, and I hope you will be inspired to play along!
It’s time to pull out some greens for St. Patrick’s Day – Mossy Meadow and Wild Wasabi for the card on the left, and Old Olive on the right. These two cards were part of last week’s Card Buffet, and they include a mix of old and new products.
The bear with the sign comes from the retired set “Cheerful Critters”. His sign is perfect for the greeting from “Teeny Tiny Greetings”. I colored the rhinestones with a Sharpie.
My owl is wearing the hat from the Snow Friends framelits – did you recognize it? The gold foil heart was punched from the Hearts Border Punch. His vest is from the Wildflower Fields designer paper collection.
Join the movement to celebrate birthdays by sending cards…this image, created by Stampin’ Up!’s Shannon West, is now available on a stamp (Item 143573, $12). Click here to read Shannon’s story.
Happy Leap Day! Before I get to the technique, a note about my last post – I had some questions about the Botanical Blooms Double Swing Card so I added a video to Friday’s post. Click here to go to that post.
I used the Kissing Technique on this card front. The big greeting is from the Sale-a-bration set “Botanicals for You”, and I inked it first with Pool Party. I took the inked stamp and pressed it to my “Dots for Days” background stamp, which I had inked with Bermuda Bay.
The card base is Basic Gray, 4 1/4″ x 11″, scored at 2 3/4″ and 5 1/2″ and z-folded to create an easel propping up the greeting.
Here’s another example of the technique, using the flower from “Crazy about You” with “Dots for Days”.
I also like the retired chevron background stamp for this technique. I used Blushing Bride on the flower stamp and Calypso Coral on the chevron pattern here.
Here are pears from “Apple of My Eye” in Pear Pizzazz pressed against Old Olive on the “Positively Chevron” background.
You can get creative with this technique, using the stamps that you have; or check out the stamp set created for this technique – “I Think You’re Great” on page 130 of the Annual Catalog.
This looks like your average A2 size card, but the square on the front is actually cut out of the card base and attached to an accordion-fold piece on the inside . The next two pictures show how it pulls open.

This is a card type that is much more impressive than it is difficult – my favorite type! We made this in club this month, and everyone agreed on this point.
Start with a 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ Basic Black card base, scored at 4 1/4″. Using the 3 1/4″ square framelit, cut a square out of the front of the card base. Decorate the square as desired, and set it aside. I used a Melon Mambo and Calypso Coral Flower with Pear Pizzazz leaves on a square of the Botanical designer paper.
Attach a 4″ x 5 1/4″ mat of Calypso Coral to the inside of the card.
Cut a piece of Whisper White 5″ x 6″, scored at 2″ and 4″. Stamp this piece as desired for the inside, and then z-fold on the score lines. Attach only the right panel to the right side of the Calypso Coral mat.
Fold the Whisper White piece flat against the Calypso Coral mat so that half of the Calypso Coral mat shows. Close the card front – the Whisper White will show through the right half of the square opening.
Attach the decorated square to the portion of the Whisper White that shows through the opening. Add a tab (made with the Banner Punch) to the left edge of the decorated square to use as a pull tab.
Leave me some feedback if you need more detail or a video on this. It is a really impressive card, and fun to make. Have a great weekend!
This is a sketch that you can really take in any direction. I went with a sweet card for a girl – maybe a new baby girl or a birthday girl.
I used “Hello Life” and “Bear Hugs” along with a little strip of paper from the Birthday Bouquet designer paper collection. I had this card started before one of my classes earlier this week, and I got some collaborative help on the arrangement and embellishments from my friends in class. Thank you ladies!

Welcome to the Grand Vacation Achievers hop for February. This month’s theme – “One for the Guys”.
You may just be starting the blog hop here at my blog (Chris Slogar) or may have come from the person previous to me in the list. If you get off track at any time, the full lineup below will help you move along from blog to blog so you see all the projects.
I love how the new World Traveler Textured Impressions Embossing Folder and Going Places Designer Paper Stack coordinate with the stamp set “Traveler”. The greeting is from “Guy Greetings”. This is a very simple card to make, but the elements are detailed and interesting.
Thanks for taking part in our blog hop, there are so many great projects here! Remember that currently you are at my blog – Chris Slogar – so check the blog hop line up list to see who is next, and enjoy!
This card is a mix of old and new. My favorite new thing here is the beautiful greeting from “Suite Sayings”. I am using it with one of the crosses from the retired set “Crosses of Hope”. The designer paper is from the Birthday Bouquet collection. The embossing folder is retired (Spring Flowers).
This is one of the cards we are making this week in Card Buffet. There is still room Thursday at noon. Please contact me to register.
Stop back later today to see another sample from this week’s Card Buffet – I am featuring it in this month’s Mediterranean Achievers Blog Hop. The hop posts at 4pm EST and includes demonstrators from around the world.
