Inspired by Project Life

GV Blog Header

Welcome to the Grand Vacation Achievers hop for October.  You may just be starting the blog hop here at my blog (Chris Slogar) or may have come from the person previous to me in the list. If you get off track at any time, the full lineup below will help you move along from blog to blog so you see all the projects.

Our projects this month are inspired by Project Life products.  Two things come to mind when I think of Project Life – pictures and simplicity.  The magnetic picture frame I have created features both.

DSC_1594w

I cut a sheet of galvanized sheet metal 8″ x 10″ to fit my favorite frame.  I also cut a piece of Merry Moments designer paper to the same size.  I popped the glass and backing out of my frame, and inserted the designer paper and metal.  Then I replaced the glass and backing to hold it all together.

My embellishments are from the Seasonal Snapshot Card Collection and Accessory Pack.  I used hot glue to attach retired Old Olive buttons to magnets, and then I added one of those cool Project Life stars from the accessories to each button.  I also mounted the “Be Merry” circle on magnets, and I threw in some cardstock and cute clips.

Only the corrugated trees are actually adhered in place – everything else can be moved to suit the pictures.  I used a couple of our old Christmas pictures for this example, but I intend to replace them with pictures of friends and family as they arrive in cards this holiday season.

I made a smaller 5″ x 7″ frame to give as a gift.

I used Merry Moments paper again here, this time with “Flurry of Wishes” snowflakes, Red Foil, Winter Wonderland Embellishments, and Iced Rhinestones.

You can cut galvanized metal to any size with tin snips, but I have also used full 24″ x 36″ sheets to make magnetic bulletin boards for my work space.  They fit right into Poster Frames, and they look nice.

Thanks for taking part in our blog hop, there are so many amazing ideas here!  Remember that currently you are at my blog – Chris Slogar – so check the blog hop line up list to see who is next in the list.  You are in for a real treat!

Trick or Treat

DSC_1589w

It’s Halloween week, and we even have a spooky full moon to go with it – I mean a real one, outside, not just on my card.

“Howl-o-ween Treat” has been a fun bundle to play with this Halloween season.  I find that I have a hard time choosing between the stamps and framelits in this set because I want to use them all.  This little owl makes a cute trick-or-treater.

Silver Snowflakes for FMS209

FMS Final 209-001

I love the simplicity of this sketch, and just seeing the Christmas tree suggestion got me thinking about my holiday sets.

DSC_1586w

I used “Flurry of Wishes” along with the “Holly Jolly Greetings” bundle for my card, keeping it very simple with just a circle of the Holidays Fancy Foil Designer Vellum and some Red Foil.

You can see all of the entries in this challenge and play along at Freshly Made Sketches.

Don’t forget, today is the LAST day for 15% off stamps in the store.  Contact me if you would like me to place your order, or click here for the online store.

Fall Colors

CCMC378

This week’s challenge colors are so seasonal.  It was an easy choice for me to make a pretty fall wreath with “Wondrous Wreath”, a set that was introduced in last year’s Holiday Catalog and carried over into this year’s Annual Catalog.

DSC_1573w

The berries on my wreath are heat embossed in gold, and I used that fabulous gold cord from the Holiday Catalog for my bow.

Thanks so much for checking out my card for this week’s challenge.  Please visit Create with Connie and Mary to see what my talented Thursday Challenge teammates have come up with.  Hope you will be inspired to play along!

Recent Club Projects

Some card recipients are definitely going to stand your card up on the mantel, or the windowsill, or the dresser…you get the idea!  I like these fun fold cards that stand up in a special way so that they can be displayed before they get pitched (or in my case, saved.)  This card folds flat for mailing.

The panel with the bear gets pushed down into the base.

The Rich Razzleberry base is a 4 1/4″ x 11″ piece, scored at 1″, 2 3/4″, 3 3/4″, 5 1/2″, 7 1/4″, 8 1/4″ and 10″.  There is a slit cut along the 5 1/2″ score for the bear panel, and the sections at each end of the piece sandwich the bottom of the panel inside the base.  The Early Espresso mat for the tall panel measures 5 1/4″ x 3″.

We made this at club this month – it was a way to learn a fun fold and also practice inking stamps with multiple colors.  “Thankful Forest Friends” is such a great set to color!

While I am talking about Club, I also want to show you two Halloween treats that we have made in our last two club meetings.  The designs are CASEd, but they are both super-fun Halloween ideas that I am sure you will love as much as I do!

The Jack-o-Lantern Witch is by Janet Baker.  Click here for more details.  Within Janet’s video, she has a great modification to make a clip out of the witch’s hat, and she also gives ideas for Santa hats.  The basket on the right is a great modification of our Berry Basket – I saw this first on Erica Cerwin’s site.  Click here for more details.  I added black wire to make a handle for my basket.

Have a great day!

Now for today’s card…

DSC_1564w

This was one of our Club projects this weekend.  The white stripes were made by spreading modeling paste over the stripes mask.  This adds a fun texture to your card, and my club members all achieved great results on their very first try.  The rest of the card is a hodgepodge of seasonal elements.

Did you notice that this is my third post in a row with this great Hello Honey and Soft Sky color combination?  I got my inspiration from one of the gals on our Artisan Design Team, Sarah Sagert.  I CASEd one of her cards almost exactly (below) for our Team Card Swap last week.

Hooray for Garden in Bloom

DSC_1562w

You can create a carefree watercolored garden in any color scheme with “Garden in Bloom”.  I have been really partial to Soft Sky lately, so I stamped these out for a few different celebrations.  The greeting is from “Watercolor Words”.

“Garden in Bloom” is a multi-step set, meaning that each element is created with several stamps.  The stamps are clear, so they are easy to line up, but as you can see, they are charming when the outlines don’t line up exactly.  That means there’s no pressure to be perfect.  Anyone can watercolor easily…with great results!

Have a great weekend!
