Silver Cording Trim

CCMC375

This week’s Create with Connie and Mary sketch gave me the opportunity to show off one of my favorite embellishments from the 2015 Holiday Catalog – the Cording Trim.  You can use it in so many ways!

DSC_1512w

I was actually able to follow this sketch to the letter.  I did not just wrap randomly…though I could’ve gotten the same effect without matching the sketch so precisely!  The snowflakes and sentiment are from “Flurry of Wishes”, available with a coordinating snowflake punch.

You can’t see the faint sparkle of the white paper in the picture, but it is there.  The snowflakes and the mat are both made from Shimmery White Cardstock.  That tends to come off my shelf at this time of year!

Thanks for checking out my card for this week’s Sketch Challenge.  Please visit Create with Connie and Mary to see what my talented Thursday Challenge teammates have come up with.  This is a really fun sketch – hope you will be inspired to play along!

Polar Bears Arrived

I was excited to receive “Thankful Forest Friends” this week so I could plan some polar bear cards for the upcoming holidays.  The polar bear is our local school district’s mascot, so we love polar bears here!

DSC_1524w

Here’s my Thanksgiving version, using Into the Woods designer paper.  My wintry version is below, and it uses Season of Cheer designer paper.

I do plan to make some brown bears, too, but I had to see how that cute guy looked as a polar bear first!

Gift Bag Gift Card Holder

DSC_1516w

This is an idea that has been around, but it looks so different made with the translucent Sketched Dots Tag a Bag gift bags (Annual Catalog pg 151).  Each gift bag is folded up 3″ to create a pocket for a gift card.  The actual bag opening is also used as a pocket, and it holds a note card.

DSC_1518w

I used a 2″ strip of Season of Cheer Designer Series Paper on each, and a 2 1/2″ circle of Night of Navy.  The tree and the greeting are from “Peaceful Pines”.  The Soft Sky cardstock mat on the notecard measures 4 1/4″ x 3 3/4″, and these fit in an A2 envelope.

Thanks to the gift bags, this is a quick and easy project.  I will be making a lot of these to give and to sell this fall!

Lots of Joy Gift

DSC_1471w

I took this layout from last week’s Joy Fold cards that were made with Into the Woods papers and fall stamp sets.  Click here for dimensions and directions.  It’s a great card type to show off designer paper.  Merry Moments designer series paper uses two great reds, two great greens, and images that coordinate with the “Lots of Joy” stamp set.

“Lots of Joy” is a little retro, and the images coordinate without looking too perfectly matched.  I added some stamps and a pocket for a gift card to the inside of this card.

DSC_1472w

The pocket is a portion of a note card envelope – perfect since I am also using the note cards.  To create this pocket, I sealed the envelope and cut a 2″ length from one end.  The notch is made with the 1″ circle punch.

DSC_1470w

I also created a sampler for the holiday season using these stamps and papers.  The stamps are so versatile that this was the only set I needed to fill the 8″ x 10″ design.  The sampler is available as a Class To Go, and I just added a Class Planner pdf option.  Click here for more details.

If you live in the Canton area, this sampler project will be available as a class again in October.

Got Pink?

CCMC374

This week’s challenge is very pink.  With Breast Cancer Awareness month just around the corner, I decided to put together a card of encouragement, admiration and support.

DSC_1463w

DSC_1464w

The stars are from “Be the Star” – the largest two are inlaid into the Whisper White mat.  The sentiments in “Be the Star” coordinate beautifully with the statement about courage from “Something to Say”.    I didn’t know that the stars framelits would be on sale this week when I planned this card, but that is a happy coincidence.

Thanks for checking out my card for this week’s color challenge.  Please visit Create with Connie and Mary to see what my talented Thursday Challenge teammates designed for you.  Hope you will be inspired to play along!

Expressions of Gratitude Blog Hop

11668157_10154008214397222_973980801_n

Welcome to the Grand Vacation Achievers hop for September. This month our focus is on giving thanks.

You may just be starting the blog hop here at my blog (Chris Slogar) or may have come from the person previous to me in the list. If you get off track at any time, the full lineup below will help you move along from blog to blog so you see all the projects.

My project uses the stamps from the September 2015 Paper Pumpkin kit.  I used Into the Woods designer paper to create a note card in a mini treat bag, and accented with the fall stamps from that kit.

DSC_1466w

I love the fact that these mini treat bags fit into an A2 envelope for easy mailing!  They are a unique way to deliver a greeting.  The note card pulls out from the top, and it is shown below.

DSC_1467w

Those little stamps are too cute!  My friend was over today, and she brought a card that she made with these same stamps.  She gave me permission to share it here – you’re gonna love it!!

Acorn Notes

DSC_1408w

I updated one of my favorite gift items for fall.  These little totes are a great way to deliver note cards, and our precut and scored note cards make this project so easy!  I used “Acorny Thank You” along with a greeting from “Watercolor Wishes”.  The designer paper is from the Into the Woods collection.

If you are local, please contact me if you would like to get a small group together to make these note card totes.  I would be happy to host your group in my craft room, or come to you.

I made a video showing the construction of these totes last spring.  It is shown below.  I am looking forward to making these with Christmas paper, too.

More Leaves and a Special Birthday

DSC_1416w

I am loving “Lighthearted Leaves” for fall projects, but I also created some holiday cards with them – this one for Thanksgiving, and the one below for Christmas.  The ornament is embossed in gold, and I did straighten the stem of the little leaf stamp on my block before stamping it.  I designed these for a sample swap I attended in Columbus, OH this past weekend.

DSC_1417w

Our Buckeye Inklings mascot had a birthday this week – Chip turned 9 on Monday!  He did not receive a card, but he did get a pupcake from our local cupcake shop.  It was also a good excuse for Julia and I to have a cupcake.  Chip’s is the one with peanut butter for frosting.

IMG_2278w

Here’s a shot of Chip waiting for his party – I couldn’t get him to smile, but he was very excited because he could smell that pupcake.

Have a great weekend!
