Simply Sprinkles

CCMC361

This week’s challenge at Create with Connie and Mary is a sketch, and I kept it simple with the help of one of my favorite new sets.

I love our new In Color, Watermelon Wonder – so pretty and fruity!  I used designer paper from the Cherry on Top collection and the tree is from “Sprinkles of Life”.  The end result is Clean and Simple, but so summery.

You can see all of the fabulous cards created by the Challenge Team at Create with Connie and Mary.  Hope you’ll check them out and play along!

Red, White & Blue

DSC_1083w

This patriotic 5″x7″ frame is grabbing a lot of attention in my craft room this week.  Isn’t it charming and fun to look at?!  It was made by my good friend and teammate Debbie D’Aurelio.  It is a great collection of images, and I especially love the fireworks in the top right corner that she stamped with the flowers from “Too Kind”.  Genius!!

DSC_1084w

The Dazzling Details and silver foil elements are so much better in person!  Hope you can make out these details.  Debbie’s frame inspired my card, which is part of this week’s Card Buffet.

Once again, I apologize that some of the detail escapes the camera.

The sentiment is retired.  Thanks for stopping by!

Garden in Bloom Fun Fold

Garden in Bloom Fun Fold

I know I have posted several “Garden in Bloom” cards recently, but I had to post one more today so I could show off this unique (and easy) fold.  I CASEd this card from Candy Michael’s swap that I received at a Demonstrator event last weekend.  We made this card in our Team Meeting this weekend.

DSC_1079w

The two things I love most about this card are the shape of the front panel and the brick texture.  This is how it looks as it opens.

DSC_1081w

And this is the inside.  It is just a little different from our standard cards, and that is what makes it so appealing.

The Tip Top Taupe base is 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ with a 4″x 5 1/4″ Very Vanilla mat.  The Watermelon Wonder piece has a tab that is attached to the underside of the Very Vanilla mat before it is attached to the base.  The Watermelon Wonder piece measures 6″ x 2 1/2″, scored just less than 3/4″ from the edge to create the tab.

The panels for the image can vary, but here are the dimensions I used:

Tip Top Taupe 3″ x 4″

Watermelon Wonder 2 3/4″ x 3 3/4″

Very Vanilla 2 1/2″ x 3 1/2″

Here is Candy’s card – as you can see I CASEd it almost exactly.

Her card uses the stamp set “Wild about Flowers” which has some great retirement sentiments that suit this card perfectly.  Note that we attached our panels on opposite sides. I did mine differently just to see how it would look.  You can decide which way to make it based on your image and sentiments.

Garden in Bloom for SIP1

SIP Any Challenge 1

The theme of this challenge is an easy one, so I couldn’t pass it up.  After all, I am using my favorite stuff daily!  At this moment, my favorite stamp set is “Garden in Bloom”, but my favorite does change regularly.  I am sure you understand 🙂

DSC_1075w

I made this card for a dear friend this week.  The designer paper is from the English Garden designer paper collection, and do you notice that great embossed brick pattern?  Love that!  The greeting is from “Build a Birthday”.

Thanks for checking out my card!  You can see all of the entries into this challenge at the Stamp Ink Paper Challenge site.  This is a new challenge site that will recognize fan favorites through popular vote as well as Design Team favorites.  Sounds like fun!

Hot Diggity Dog Wishes

CCMC360

I used this week’s challenge colors with “Hot Diggity Dog” and “Bohemian Borders”.  Isn’t that just an obvious pairing?  I CASEd a card by Jan McMullen, using those border stamps vertically.  She made a sweet pastel card with a birthday cake, but I was determined to get a Chocolate Chip weiner dog on my card.  Here is the result…

Hot Diggity Dog

Isn’t he cute?  Love those little dogs from “Hot Diggity Dog”!

Watermelon Curvy Boxes

DSC_1074w

The Curvy Keepsake Box Thinlit is a “go-to” for favors, and our new In Colors inspired these summery boxes.  I used “Work of Art” to make the stripes, and the tag is stamped with a greeting from the retired set “Sweet Stuff”.  The seeds are punch pack hearts, cut in half and coated with Crystal Effects.

DSC_1072w

When you make the curvy boxes from different papers, you do have to piece the colors together.  Here is how the outside and inside of my pieces looked before assembly.  I covered the inside of the Cucumber Crush piece with Whisper White, and I created tabs on the Cucumber Crush pieces to attach to the Watermelon Wonder pieces.

I have received and am currently filling my first group of Ribbon Share orders.  I have updated my Ribbon Share listing here with pictures of the shares.  Please note that I added a longer length share of the 1″ Ribbon Lace.  In addition to the 1 yd length (1/5 spool), you can opt for 2 1/2 yd (1/2 spool) of each color.

I will be ordering my next group of Ribbon Shares this weekend, please contact me if you would like to be included.

Hooray for Vellum!

DSC_1057w

Vellum adds a special touch to your projects without a lot of extra fuss.  These are the two cards we made in club this weekend using vellum – quite easy in terms of construction, but the vellum makes them more sophisticated.

DSC_1061w

This second card is a case from page 119 of the Annual Catalog.  Both cards use the “Garden in Bloom” stamp set and English Garden designer series paper.

The best features of vellum are also the biggest challenges when using it.  We love that frosty, transparent look, but the transparency forces some planning when it comes to adhesive.  I don’t like to see adhesive through the vellum, so I find ways to hide it.

DSC_1059w

On my first card, I used a small bit of snail adhesive at the top left corner of the squares as a temporary measure, and then I stapled through both squares, catching the Silver Metallic Thread loops.  I hid this attachment behind the banner.

DSC_1060w

The second card has an extra 1/2″ flap of vellum that wraps to the back of the designer paper.  I used sticky strip along that flap to attach the vellum panel.

Vellum is a coated material, not at all porous, so it doesn’t allow ink to soak in.  Our Classic ink does dry on vellum, but it takes longer.  Heat embossing, as shown on the first card, is ideal for vellum, and it looks great!  I colored the flower from the back with Stampin’ Write markers.

StazOn is a great ink for vellum, and that is what you see on the butterfly card.  It dries more quickly than other inks, and it is very opaque.  StazOn, and especially StazOn cleaner, can break down photopolymer, though.  Stampin’ Up! recommends using StazOn cleaner sparingly, and removing all traces of the cleaner with an additional wash.

If you are concerned and would like to read more about StazOn and polymer, I found the following info at photocentricusa.com.  It convinced me that I could accept the risk of StazOn.  If the stamps can hold up to repeated use (stamping many times a minute) for months with StazOn, I think mine will be able to weather my limited StazOn use!  It would be a shame if we couldn’t use our stamps for all of our needs.  Anyway, well-used stamps make me just as happy as pristine stamps – they each have their own appeal, don’t they?

From photocentricusa.com…

“Polymer is like us in that it doesn’t like too much sunlight or too much alcohol! The solvent in Staz-on is amongst the most aggressive on polymer stamps and will attack the upper surface on contact. This gives the stamp more grab on the paper and makes it feel sticky when removed. In reality, the solvent is only affecting the stamp whilst it’s liquid, which is only for a few seconds before it evaporates and even then only the thinnest surface of the stamp.  After repeated stamping this effect is reduced as the stamp becomes protected by a layer of pigment. We use performed long term trials with Staz-on on polymer stamps, and even with repeated use (stamping many times a minute) they still last for many months.

Recommendations for using solvent based inks with clear stamps
1. Use solvent based cleaners sparingly. Solvent based cleaners are more damaging to the stamp than the ink you are removing. So if you can use cleaners, do so sparingly.
2. Create a pigment barrier between the polymer and ink by applying a water based ink before applying your solvent ink. This will prevent the solvents from coming into direct contact with the polymer.
3. Wash ink off immediately with soapy water.

Solvent based inks
Solvent inks are great for permanent strong inking, we recommend Staz-on. They impart very minor damage to the photopolymer. The solvent cleaners will eventually damage the polymer.”

Thanks for stopping by – have a great Monday!
