Cheers to the Year

This is one of the cards we are making in class this week.  It is a simple and striking holiday card.  I CASEd this card from fellow demonstrator Jan McMullen; she presented it at an event in Columbus in September.  The silver foil snowflake stands out beautifully against the Night of Navy card base, and it is fun to stamp a background print as I have here with the Navy and Smoky Slate snowflakes.

This card is very adaptable to different color schemes, and you will want to use those gorgeous gold foil snowflakes too.  I used Fresh Fig here, and I used a square of the Year of Cheer specialty designer paper to make this version even easier.  The designer paper is already embossed with silver and gold snowflakes.

In either of these designs, the snowflake panel measures 3 1/4″ square, and the mat (Smoky Slate or Gold Foil) measures 3 3/8″.

If you would like to shop, please click here to go to the online store, or use the carousel below to be directed to a specific product from today’s card.  I would love to send you a set of four snowflake cards with packaging when you order $35 or more.  Order $50 or more, and I will include a pack of Foil Snowflakes, and you also get a Buckeye Point in my Loyalty Rewards program.  I appreciate your orders!

Alaska Achievers Blog Hop

Welcome to the Alaska Achievers hop for October.  This is the first month for Alaska Achievers, and I am thrilled to say that though this is the third Grand Vacation I have earned, it will be the first one we are able to take!  So, we are really excited about that!!

My upline Mindy Gray sent us these shirts as a part of her “Congratulations” to me, and they will be a great reminder to us of the upcoming trip!  Such a fun gift!!  I wish I also had a picture of the gorgeous fall flowers she sent.

I would also like to extend a big thank you to my customers and team for making it possible for me to earn this trip!

Now to the hop…you may just be starting the blog hop here at my blog (Chris Slogar) or may have come from the person previous to me in the list. If you get off track at any time, the full lineup below will help you move along from blog to blog so you see all of the projects.

I have two similar cards to share, and by coincidence they even coordinate with the t-shirts!  These are fun folds – a CASE of a CASE that I credit back to Dawn Griffith and Laura Barto.

We made this version in my Club Meetings this month.  The greeting is on an arm that swings open to the right.

The Thick Whisper White piece is the main card base, and it flips up.

This is how the card looks completely open – pretty cool, huh?

My second card is similar, but it is made in “landscape” orientation.

The arm flips up, and the card base opens to the left.

In either of my samples, the dimensions are as follows:

Basic Black 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″

Cherry Cobbler 3 3/4″ x 5 1/2″

Thick Whisper White 3 1/2″ x 11″, scored at 5 1/2″

Old Olive (arm) 1″ x 5 1/2″, scored at 4 1/4″

On the ornament card – designer paper pieces 3 1/2″ x 3″ and 3 1/2″ x 1/2″

On the snowflake card – designer paper 3 1/2″ x 5 1/2″

The squares used for the greetings are framelits – 2 7/8″ square and 2 5/8″ stitched square

The only trick is to get the Old Olive arm tucked in between the Basic Black base and Cherry Cobbler mat.  You can get creative with themes and greetings on this card type.  Big greetings work really well, but you could also use a big image.

Thanks so much for taking part in our blog hop.  Remember that currently you are at my blog – Chris Slogar – so check the blog hop line up list to see who is next, and enjoy!

Labels to Love Peppermint

These patterns from the Christmas Around the World designer paper collection inspired my oversized peppermint candy.  The swirls are made with pieces cut from one of the Umbrella Weather Framelits, as shown below.

I used the umbrella framelit that cuts and scores.  I cut off each side of the umbrella, using the score lines as guides.

I arranged five of these pieces on Whisper White cardstock, and I glued them in place.  I then used the 2 3/8″ circle framelit to create the round candy.  Here’s another look at the finished card…

Both parts of the greeting are from “Labels to Love”.  I used one of the Layering Ovals framelits to cut out HO HO HO, and the new Everyday Label Punch for the Old Olive label shape.

Merry Mistletoe Coffee Cup

I saw some discussion online about this year’s Starbucks holiday cup, and decided to make up one of my own.  While I am not a huge Starbucks fan, I love their festive cups – and how they seem to usher in the holiday season.  I am really partial to the bright red cups, and I do love coffee.  This combination of “Merry Mistletoe” (the reindeer stamp) and the Coffee Cup framelits makes me happy!  The greeting is from “Christmas Pines”.

Half Full, Take Two

I love this sentiment from “Half Full”, and this card is pretty similar to my first card from the set (click here) but without the watercoloring.  I simply used a Blender Pen to pick up ink from my Fresh Fig and Old Olive stamp pads to color the grapes.

Santa’s Sleigh

The Santa’s Sleigh bundle was introduced in last year’s Holiday Catalog, and I have used it here with a greeting from another of set from last year – Christmas Pines.  Both are still available.  Thanks to the detailed framelit shapes, this card came together so easily!

Peace, Love, Buckeyes

As we head into a beautiful fall weekend in the Midwest, it seems like perfect timing for a Buckeye card!  Thanks to the Large Letters Framelits and “Labeler Alphabet”, I could easily put together these good wishes.

The “O” on this card is made with a set of dies from another company, and some of the Stampin’ Up! supplies used here are retired.  The word “PEACE” is from last year’s “Stitched with Cheer”, and the small scallop circle and leaves are made with retired punches.  You can improvise as needed to suit your favorite team.

My own Buckeyes are home for fall break this weekend – such a treat to see them!  I hope you have a good weekend – go Bucks!

Bethlehem Edgelits

Today I’m showing two of my favorite things from the 2017 Holiday Catalog, and these two things alone make a great card.  The two things are the Bethlehem Edgelits and the Merry Music Specialty Designer Paper.

First, let’s talk about the designer paper.  It is lightweight for layering, and there are 24 sheets in the pack for $13.  There are four 12″ x 12″ sheets of each design; three of the designs are black on white, and three are white on black.  Printed with Christmas Carols, they are so versatile for all of your Christmas projects.

And then there are these gorgeous detailed edgelits.  I used three of the five edgelits from the set, and I cut them from a quarter sheet of black cardstock in a single pass on my Big Shot.  These edgelits make it so easy to create a scene that is reminiscent of the first Christmas.

I have not used it here, but there is a stamp set available to bundle with the edgelits.  It does offer great greetings and additional versatility.  I’ll include the bundle options in the Carousel in case you want to check them out.  Otherwise, the carousel would have been only four items for this card!!

Here is a card I posted previously using the stamps…

Whole Lot of Lovely

Embossing paste is an easy way to add interesting texture to your projects.  It’s also so fun to use!  It’s great on solid cardstock, and it is even better on designer paper, like this print from the Whole Lot of Lovely designer paper collection.  This is one of the paper collections included in the Buy 3 Get 1 Free sale in October.

Here’s the same card with different mask patterns.  These cards fall into the “easier than they look” category – my favorite category 🙂  Check your stash of designer papers to see what you might like to stock up on during our sale this month.

Half Full

“Half Full” from our 2017 Holiday Catalog includes lighthearted images and greetings for wine lovers.  This is my first card from this set – I kept it simple, and I colored a bit.  The images are stamped with Archival Black on Shimmery White cardstock and colored with an Aquapainter.  The colors are Fresh Fig, Tranquil Tide, and Sahara Sand.

Here’s a look at this great set…
