Best Birds Birdhouse

This is an old favorite, updated with a new embossing folder and a bird from “Best Birds”.  The embossing folder is Pinewood Planks, and it is one of our deep embossing folders.  The card opens as shown below.

I’ve shown this fold before, and it is quite easy to make this card type.  Here is the “how-to” video from a previous post.

I colored the branch with watercolor pencils and a Blender Pen, and I colored the bird with sponge daubers before cutting it out with the framelit.  It was so easy to get a couple of shades and a great result with the daubers.

Here’s the sample I made for folks coming to Card Buffet this week.  You can eliminate heavy ink marks if you begin sponging outside the limits of the bird and then rub the color onto the bird.

Red, White and Blue

I made this fun card to celebrate our Independence Day.  The solid image is from “Lovely Inside & Out”, and it works so well with the debossed greeting.  This is one of the cards we are making in this week’s Card Buffet.

Coffee Cafe Fun Fold

Just a quick look at one of my swap cards today.  I just love the coffee cups and accessories in the Coffee Break Suite!

This is a 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ card, with a front panel that is cut away – the Crumb Cake base measures 4 1/4″ x 8 1/2″, scored at 5 1/2″.  The Early Espresso mat on the front flap measures 4″ x 2 3/4″ and the designer paper is 3 7/8″ x 2 5/8″.

I like to stamp and layer the inside of cards when possible, and that is a must for a card like this where the inside panel shows.  The Early Espresso mat on the inside measures 4″ x 5 1/4″ and the Whisper White, stamped with coffee beans, measures 3 7/8″ x 5 1/8″.

You could modify this to showcase any object.  I CASEd a card from my upline Mindy Gray to make my card, and her theme was totally different.  She used the fabulous Birthday Memories Suite.  The sweet little girl on this card is cut right from the designer paper with a framelit!

We Love Our Hosts Blog Tour

We Love Our Hosts Blog Tour

The Host Sets are especially fabulous this year – so much so, that I had a hard time picking one to showcase!  I decided to go with the absolute best value set, and the one that may seem intimidating.  It’s the set with a whopping 60 stamps for only $16 (Stampin’ Reward Dollars), and it is called “In the City”.

My card is a gate fold of sorts.  The horizontal Emerald Envy strip is a gate fold piece, just not a full-height gate.  The opening created looks more like a saloon door than a gate.

The Emerald Envy strip measures 2 3/4″ x 8 1/2″, scored at 2 1/8″ and 6 3/8″.  I put it in place on a 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ piece of Emerald Envy first.

Then I stamped and added the other pieces.  This is where the fun begins.  First a look at the stamp set…

Oh the possibilities!

I had some fun playing with the pieces until I came up with a layout that I liked.  I simply used the stamps as placeholders, and moved them around until I had a little scene.

Then it was time to stamp, and I picked up stamps one at a time off the layout, leaving the others in place when possible.  It was helpful to have post-its available for masking.

I only trimmed the post-its where I had to, like on this roofline.  For the most part, straight edges on the mask were adequate.

I used only 21 of the stamps for this card.  I kept some acrylic blocks handy to collect the dirty stamps as I worked.  Some of them are very small and easy to lose, so watch out for that!  If you are more disciplined than me, you could clean them and put them away as you stamp.

When you are using so many stamps, I recommend stamping a few cards at a time.  I wish I had done that!

These Host Sets are only available with Stampin’ Reward Dollars earned on orders over $150, gathered through a party or placed in the online store.  Through the end of June, big orders ($350+) earn Stampin’ Rewards according to the chart in the catalog plus an additional $35.

Why not group orders with a few friends to take advantage of this?  If you need the orders to ship to separate locations, contact me at stampyourworld@gmail.com, and I will set up a Hostess Code for you.  Using a Hostess Code, orders placed by individuals in the online store can be counted toward one total for the Hostess.

I hope you enjoyed my “Saloon Doors” card.  Thank you for participating in our blog hop.  Remember that currently you are at my blog – Chris Slogar – so check the lineup below to see who is next and enjoy!

Good News for Daisy Fans

The Daisy Punch and Daisy Delight Bundle are now available in the online store.  For those who have been waiting for these, thank you for your patience!  If the popularity of these items in preorder is any indicator, they will continue to be in great demand.  Stampin’ Up! has adjusted supply orders accordingly, but I would still get these items while you can.

Besides the daisy, my card uses another fun new catalog item – embossing paste!  This new paste is very light and quick-drying compared to embossing pastes I have used in the past.  I tinted the paste with my Crumb Cake reinker for this card.

The paste is easy to spread over a mask – we also have a new collection of masks available – and the resulting texture is worth this quick step.

If you would like to shop for any of these great new products in the online store, click here, or use the carousel below to go directly to a specific product used in today’s card.  The Daisy Delight Bundle is a great deal at $31.50 for both the punch and the stamp set.

Order $35 or more in June, and I will send you this gift.  Please use the Hostess Code listed.  You’ll also receive a Buckeye Point in my Loyalty Rewards program for every $50 spent before shipping and tax.

Have a great day!

Lemon Zest Shaker Card

This fun shaker card is a CASE of a swap by my upline Terri Meehan, and we made this in our Buckeye Inklings Team Meeting last night.  The new Iridescent Sequins are perfect with the bright summery colors used here, and they are easily enclosed in one of our Medium Clear Envelopes.

The stamped image (Whisper White 4 3/16″ x 3 1/8″) is matted on Peekaboo Peach (4 5/16″ x 3 1/4″).  The longer dimension fits into the width of the envelope as shown above.

To enclose sequins, first trim the envelope 1/2″ beyond the matted piece.  Add sequins to the front of the pocket that is created, and secure the cut end of the envelope to the back of the matted piece.

I simply attached the shaker piece to the card front – in this case, a Lemon Lime Twist base with an embossed Lemon Lime Twist mat.  The bow is added last, on the outside of the shaker.  This is a super-easy way to create a shaker card.

Annual Catalog Favorites Blog Hop

Welcome to the Grand Vacation Achievers hop for June.  This month we are featuring our favorite products from the 2017-2018 Annual Catalog.

You may just be starting the blog hop here at my blog (Chris Slogar) or may have come from the person previous to me in the list. If you get off track at any time, the full lineup below will help you move along from blog to blog so you see all of the projects.

I chose to highlight the Lemon Zest bundle, which has become an unexpected favorite for me.  We all have our “must-have” lists initially, and then there are sets that we overlook.  I had passed over this bundle at first, and what a mistake that was!  These lemons, limes, and oranges (or whatever you make them) are so fun and summery.

My background slices are Lemon Lime Twist on Lemon Lime Twist cardstock.  The lime stamped in the foreground is Lemon Lime Twist with Old Olive sponged onto the edges for depth.  I used Melon Mambo for my card base.

How do you like the new sequin trim?  I think the smaller size is much easier to work with, and I am thrilled that it comes in black!

Thank you for taking part in our blog hop.  Remember that currently you are at my blog – Chris Slogar – so check the blog hop line up list to see who is next, and enjoy!

Beautiful Bouquet

I mentioned “Beautiful Bouquet” last week because I used one of its pretty greetings on this card.  Besides the wonderful greetings in this set, there are just so many images and pieces to work with!  I have only used a few in today’s card – the full bundle is shown below.

I picked a few leaves and flowers that coordinated with a strip of designer paper from the Whole Lot of Lovely Collection.

Lemon Zest

“Lemon Zest” lends itself to bright and summery projects like this one, and it has a coordinating punch (yay!!) for ease in cutting out the lemon and leaves.  We made this pouch at a Team Meeting in Columbus last weekend, and I love what my upline Terri Meehan came up with for the contents of this treat bag…

So cute, and a perfect conclusion for this sentiment, isn’t it?

Have a great weekend!

Tranquil Tulips

Back to basics with this one…all you see is stamps, ink and paper.  I used the Host set “Tranquil Tulips” on my card.  There is no special trick to achieve the watercolored look of these stamps, no stamping off or rock and rolling.  The stamps are made to produce these variegated images.

A pair of two step stamps makes up each of the tulips, and I have stamped them in Berry Burst.  The color looks darker than Berry Burst because the background is from the Wood Textures designer paper collection.

“Tranquil Tulips” is a Host set, meaning that it can only be purchased with Stampin’ Rewards earned on orders of $150 or more.  All orders, individual or combined, of $150 or more earn rewards.  Please contact me if you would like to order with friends to achieve this level.  I can set up a Hostess Code so that you can combine orders from several people in several locations to earn Rewards.  I love to help you earn all possible benefits!

The greeting is from a wonderful flower and greeting set, “Beautiful Bouquet”.
