Gift Card Holders with Hooray for Surprises

I love the zip strip die in the Hooray for Surprises bundle. It creates a perforated strip – you can see an example, slightly pulled open in the example at top left.

This weekend, I started using this die for gift card holders…and couldn’t stop! I presented these cards on a Facebook Live yesterday, and I have copied it to YouTube and linked it below.

In my first example, I created a simple panel on a card front.

  • Fresh Freesia 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″, scored at 4 1/4″
  • Azure Afternoon 3 7/8″ x 5 1/8″
  • Designer Paper (Bright & Beautiful) 3 3/4″ x 5″
  • Lemon Lime Twist 2 3/8″ x 3 1/8″
  • Basic White 2 1/4″ x 3″

Keep in mind that you cannot complete these cards until you have the actual gift card ready to be hidden behind the panel – it gets sandwiched between the layers!

I love projects that rely on designer series paper – the beautiful prints carry a project! It’s especially great when we have lots of free dsp, like we do now in Sale-a-bration. These monochromatic rainbows are from Sunny Days, one of our “Free with $50” rewards.

Each of these cards started from a 5 1/2″ x 12″ piece of designer paper. They are scored slightly differently, and you can see that from the opened-up picture of the cards below. The stamps and dies are from the Sending Love bundle.

The upper one is scored at 1″, 5 1/4″ and 8 3/4″ – take special care with directional prints. Refer to the video if you need help on this. I scored each of these on my scoring board with the outside (rainbow print) facing up.

The 1″ section can be glued down under the inner mat, or secured only at top and bottom to create a pocket as shown above.

  • Shaded Spruce mat for Scalloped Contour Shape 3 1/2″ x 4 3/4″
  • Shaded Spruce for insert – smaller to fit pocket or to be hidden by front panel – 3 1/4″ x 4 1/2″
  • Basic White for insert 3″ x 4 1/4″

The lower one is scored at 4 1/4″ and 8 1/2″, leaving a larger width for the gift card. Again, be careful when planning directional prints.

  • Shaded Spruce mat for Scalloped Contour Shape 3 1/2″ x 4 3/4″
  • Shaded Spruce for insert – same as front – 3 1/2″ x 4 3/4″
  • Basic White for insert 3 1/4″ x 4 1/2″

You can change the orientation of these. I really love how the layout of the first mailbox card (with pocket) worked on my Bee Mine version in the opposite direction…

This one is made with the “Free with $50” Most Adored dsp.
