Celebrate Today

DSC_0559w

Need a quick birthday card?  “Celebrate Today” and the coordinating Balloon Framelits are great for that.  You can make cute cards with this set without pulling out everything you own!  This one may have the shortest supply list ever.

This is a really simple card.  It’s hard to see, but there is a Basic Black mat on top of the card base.  It is embossed with the Lucky Stars embossing folder, and I have tucked my balloon twine under its edge.

Have a great weekend!

Sheltering Tree

DSC_0558w

Thought I would go with soft, sweet colors to match the lighthearted feel of “Sheltering Tree”.  I only used a few of the images available in the set – I will show it below.  You can create a scene for any season by changing colors and accessories, and the sentiments are charming – I like the whimsical look of this set.

I didn’t create anything Buckeye-related ahead of time (didn’t want to jinx anything), but I do have a happy card to show…

I love those scribbles in “Snuggles and Smooches”, and I think they go well with the lighthearted script from the Hello You Framelits.  The colors are Rose Red, Garden Green and Lost Lagoon, and there are so many different sentiments that you could put together with the framelit words and the words and phrases in “Crazy about You”.  I have two words to describe this card – fun and easy!

Valentine’s Day Wreaths

DSC_0555w

Since you can have a wreath for every season and holiday, “Wondrous Wreath” is a stamp set to keep handy all year.  I used Strawberry Slush, Wisteria Wonder and Elegant Eggplant to make my Valentine’s wreaths for these cards.

DSC_0554w

Here I have used the Hearts Border Punch along the top.  And below I have used a stamp from the Hostess Set “Hello Love”.  The wreath steals the show – you don’t need much else on these simple and sweet cards.

B.Y.O.P.*

DSC_0551w

Love this new set – it is so appropriate for the gift cards we all give!  It is called “B.Y.O.P.” and I will show all the greetings below because there are so many good ones.  But first, the inside…

DSC_0550w

*buy your own present!

The inner Whisper White file piece has a 1 1/4″ width folded up to make a pocket for the gift card.  I did not attach this insert to the card since I clip it all together with a binder clip, decorated with a little piece of dsp of course.  And doesn’t just a little of those great new trims go a long way?

This was also one of my Open House projects this week, and I didn’t know it would be so timely with the weekly deals when I planned it. The envelope punch board is on sale through next Monday, Item 133774 for $14.96.  It is used to make the file tabs – drop me a note if you are not familiar with this technique, and I can do a quick video on this.

My Featured Project is a very similar file folder card for Valentine’s.  I will send you the Featured Project when you order $35 online.  Just a note about ordering, if you click “no contact”, I will not have an address to send this to.  In that case, please drop me an email with your address if you would like to receive the Featured Project.

Here’s a look at the rest of the “B.Y.O.P.” set…

Mini Treat Bag

DSC_0544w

This was one of my Open House projects last night – thank you to those of you who braved the cold weather to attend!  If you didn’t, I understand – it is extremely cold here.

This project is a CASE of a card that I got from Mindy Gray at a swap this past weekend.  I loved her idea of using the Mini Treat Bag as a wrap for a note card.  I also love the fact that this fits in an envelope for mailing!

Mindy’s pretty design is shown below.  Both of our projects use the Sale-a-bration set “Best Day Ever” and Best Year Ever designer paper, either of which you can choose for free with a $50 order.  Mindy’s also uses the Petal Potpourri Bundle from the Occasions Catalog.

Painted Blooms and Painted Petals

DSC_0524w

My first love out of the Occasions catalog was this coordinating designer paper collection and stamp set – Painted Blooms and Painted Petals.  I guess I am all ready to look ahead to spring!  I wanted to use a few patterns, so I thought a step card would work well, and I made it vertical so there would be plenty of room for those long stems.

DSC_0522w

This design allows space for a 4″ square of Whisper White inside for a message.  We have done these step cards before (here) and you can modify dimensions on any of them to suit your needs.  This card starts from a 4 1/4″ x 11″ piece of cardstock, and I have copied my notes for the dimensions below.

VerticalStep DSC_0521w

The important thing is to cut the line indicated with the squiggly arrow first.  Then you can easily score to it.

If you are making a card with these dimensions, here are sizes for the mat pieces:

Left Side CS 1 5/8″ x 4 1/4″,  White 1 1/2″ x 4 1/8″

Right Side CS 2 1/8″ x 4 1/8″, designer paper 2″ x 4″

Bottom CS 3/4″ x 4″, designer paper 5/8″ x 3 7/8″

Have a great day!

Creative Blog Hop

Thank you so much to the very talented Connie Babbert for nominating me to participate in the Creative Blog Hop.  I am so honored!  Connie lives in nearby Columbus, but I met her in Florida at a Stampin’ Up! conference.  She has a fabulous site with so many creative ideas.  Click here to go to her Creative Blog Hop post, but make sure to look around at her other projects, too.

My project is one that I have been meaning to get to for a while, and it is perfect for this hop because it shows off my favorite thing in papercrafting – designer paper.  And not just one pattern, but many coordinating patterns from the same collection.   The project is a set of monogrammed note cards with a box.

Painted Blooms Note Card with Box

Don’t you love that paper?  It is called Painted Blooms, and it will be available starting tomorrow.  “Painted Petals” is the coordinating stamp set, and I have stamped some of the flowers on the envelopes.

The set of 3 1/2″ x 5″ note cards is very easy to put together.  I used pre-cut and pre-scored note cards, and they come with envelopes.  I added a 3 1/4″ x 4 3/4″ Wild Wasabi mat to each card.  Each piece of designer paper is 3″ x 4 1/2″.

Instead of building up elements, I punched a 1 3/4″ hole in each piece of designer paper before attaching to the Wild Wasabi.  Since these are note cards, I think simpler is better and I didn’t want a lot of bulky layers.  To get each hole centered, I took a punched Post-it and put it in place so that I could easily see where to punch – I just lined up the window on my punch with the Post-it.

DSC_0537w

After attaching the designer paper pieces to the note cards, I also added a strip of Wild Wasabi, 1/4″ x 3 1/4″, before popping up my 1 3/8″ stamped circle on a dimensional.  I used the retired set “Lovely Letters” stamped in Blackberry Bliss for my initial.

You can alter this project drastically by using different colors, a different designer paper collection, a letter from a different set, or a different stamp or embellishment in place of the letter.  I will add a link below to a set made with Eastern Elegance and a different box type.

As for the box…our 80lb cardstock makes a sturdy box that you can decorate to match the cards.  For this project, I used the Envelope Punch Board to make a box with a lid.

DSC_0541w

I have a video that shows the box construction.  I think you will be surprised at how easy it is to make.

And now to answer the questions that are a part of this Creative Blog Hop…

1.  What are you working on now?

Open House projects including samples, make-n-takes and door prizes for my Wednesday night event.

2.  How does your work differ from others in your genre?

I like to do a lot of different things, sometimes at the same time.  I jump around between techniques and products for club meetings or blog posts because it all interests me, and I want to try it all.  I don’t stay with one topic or stamp set for long, and if you saw my work space on any given day, you would see more than one project in progress.  Creating multiples of anything is a chore for me because I would rather design new things than create duplicates.

3.  Why do your create what you do?

It’s fun to work with colors and patterns, and putting papercraft elements together is relaxing.  Most of my projects are small (cards and small 3D items), and it is very satisfying to be able to create something from the heart even in a short period of time.

4.  How does your creative process work?

I wish I knew!!  Maybe then I could figure out why it takes hours to come up with a design one day, and the next day I am done with a beautiful card in 15 minutes.  But seriously, I get color inspiration everywhere, and if I am stuck, I look at our Color Coach.  On most occasions, I have a general layout idea, and then I stamp many elements and I get out many trims.  I move things around in a “Trial and Error” process until I hit the right combination.

Thank you for taking the time to look at my entry in the hop!

I hope you will continue with the hop next week as Amy Kunkle from {crazy}beYOUtiful and Donna from Butternut Sage Designs take a turn with the Creative Blog Hop.  I admire the work of both of these ladies – one who I know well (Amy from my Team) and one who I have only met by email (Donna).  I have gotten inspiration from both, and I am sure you will, too!

Lotus Blossom Sneak Peek (and More!)

Happy New Year!  I hope your holidays were fabulous!  The New Year brings great new things from Stampin’ Up!, and I have a preview for you today…

DSC_0525w

The focus of this sneak peek is “Lotus Blossom” from the upcoming Sale-a-bration catalog.  It is one of the stamps sets you can choose for FREE with a $50 order, starting January 6.  I also used new products from the upcoming Occasions catalog – the Spring Flowers embossing folder, Something Borrowed designer paper and Sahara Sand lace trim.  Just a couple more days until we can start ordering all of these goodies!

I made the lotus flower and stem with 5 stamps and 3 colors.  That sounds complicated but it’s not.  It is easiest to show in a series of pictures.  The flower itself is a three-step stamp.

DSC_0516w

I stamped the first part of the image with Elegant Eggplant.

DSC_0517w

I used Elegant Eggplant again on the second part of the image, only this time I stamped it off to get a lighter shade.  The set is photopolymer (totally clear), so the stamps are easy to line up.

DSC_0518w

I used Wisteria Wonder on the third stamp to fill in the rest of the flower.  The stamps are numbered and have registration tabs for alignment.

DSC_0519w

There are two stamps for the stem – I used Mossy Meadow first.

DSC_0520w

I filled in the stem with lighter (stamped off) Mossy Meadow.  The coral flower is done the same way with Calypso Coral and Crisp Cantaloupe.

DSC_0526w

The greeting you see here comes with the set, too, along with a simple “thank you”.  It is a great set, but it is only one of the items you can choose for FREE with a $50 order starting January 6.

Please contact me if you would like the Occasions and Sale-a-bration catalogs, or check back on January 6 to see the new products in the store.  Order $35 or more from my online store and you will also receive my Featured Project – the “Snuggles and Smooches” curvy box and file folder card.  Please allow demo contact so that I get your address to send you these items, or send me an email with your contact info.
