Silver and Gold for The Friday Mashup

I have a separate post today for the Weekly Deals and a new Photopolymer set that was released today.  Scroll past this post or click here to see it.

My cards tend to get simpler as we get closer to Christmas.  I guess that is inevitable during the busy holiday season.  Simple can still be striking and showy, though.  I started with the inspiration at The Friday Mashup for this design.  This week, they are asking for a project using silver or gold, or a Christmas project, or a combination of the two.

DSC_0421w

I used silver and gold heat embossing with “Endless Wishes” on Blackberry Bliss.  The metallics show up so great on dark colors.  The tag shape is from the Curvy Keepsake Box Thinlits.

Santa Gift Card Holders

DSC_0401w

The Gift Card Envelope & Trims Thinlits give us a very easy way to package gift cards.  The large thinlit cuts and scores the base shape shown below.  You can get four of these from a 12″x12″ sheet of cardstock.

DSC_0403w

The framelit takes the work out of preparing a base, and you are left with the fun part – decorating.  I used a 1″strip of Basic Black to make a belt, and a 1 1/2″ square of glimmer paper with a 1″ square of Basic Black for the buckle.

This was a make-n-take at Mindy Gray’s Team Meeting in early September, and it has been a “go-to” project for me.  They are great for classes, craft shows, and giving.

Have a great Monday!

The Newborn King for FMS165

DSC_0397w

I loved the simple sketch at Freshly Made Sketches this week.  I am sure I will use it again for Valentine’s Day, but for now, it suited this nativity scene from “The Newborn King”.  Here is the sketch:

I used white embossing powder on watercolor paper for the image.  I brushed over it with my Aquapainter loaded with Night of Navy, then Lost Lagoon, Soft Sky and Pear Pizzazz.  The embossed image resists the color – this is a simple (and fun!) way to get some wow factor.

Since the stable got lost in the watercolors, I added a stable that is embossed on silver cardstock with white embossing powder.  The word “joy” is also cut from silver cardstock.  The joy framelit is from the Snowflake Card Thinlits Dies.

Geometrical Tree for PP224

DSC_0387w

I took a little break from traditional Christmas colors for this Tic-Tac-Toe Challenge at The Paper Players.  The geometrical shapes in the paper are contemporary like the color scheme.  The stars and triangular tree carry the geometrical theme, and Lost Lagoon is a nice trendy accent color.  Here is the Challenge Diagram…

I did the left column – Tree, Patterned Paper and Star.  Here is a better look at the tree…

‘Tis the Season…

‘Tis the season for a lot of things…lists, parties, games, gifts, new catalogs!  We had a little bit of everything at our Team Meeting last night.  I’ll start with our make-n-take since you are probably visiting for project ideas.

DSC_0383w

This little folder holds half of a junior memo pad.  I have seen so many versions of this cute punch art snowman looking up to the sky – I had to make him, too.

The snowman’s head is 1 3/8″ and his body is 2″.  His hat is an XL oval punch, and a portion of an XL oval punch with sides punched with the 1 3/8″ circle.  His scarf is made with two Modern Label punch shapes, cut down to fit.  I used the little star punch for his nose, cutting away the excess.

My snowman’s mouth and buttons are stamped with my “eraser stamps”.  I have shown these before.  They are very handy little stamps that you can make yourself.  If you take the time to make a few circle sizes, you will save yourself from a lot of frustration caused by teeny tiny punch art circles.

chickeye

Simply carve away an eraser to form a circle stamp.  I used an exacto knife to carve a rough circle, and then I filed it smooth with an emery board.  I have been using this one for at least four years.

Here is the inside of the note pad folder…

It’s always fun to stamp together, but this time, stamping wasn’t even the highlight of our night.  We had a great potluck dinner, a challenging game (maybe too challenging?!), and then we watched live streaming of the Catalog Kickoff Event.  It was the next best thing to being at the premiere, and what a treat to combine it with our Christmas party.  Here are some pictures from our night.  And by the way, the Occasions Catalog looks awesome!

It was great to see the Canton-area teammates that could come.  We missed those that couldn’t make it or are too far – they will get Happy Mail very soon!

December Greetings a la Carte

I am scheduling one more day of Greetings a la Carte for next Thursday, December 11 (noon or 6pm).  To keep it simple, the same 12 cards that were on last month’s “menu” are staying, but I am also adding three choices at the end.  If you would like to sign up, please contact me with your selection(s).

This class is a Stamp-a-Stack where you create cards in groups of eight.  The price varies based on design, and each card comes with a Whisper White or Very Vanilla mat piece for the inside (with the exception of the gift card holder).  Dimensionals and envelopes are included, but please bring all other adhesives.

You can sign up for more than one design, or multiples of designs.  Remember, you are signing up to make groups of eight.  Depending on how many sets you choose, you may not be able to completely assemble them during the class time, but I will make sure you do the steps you need to complete with my supplies.

 My card for today…

DSC_0362w

Here’s another look at the Wondrous Wreath bundle, this time paired with “Larger Than Life Alphabet & Numbers”.  The card base is Mossy Meadow, and the wreath is stamped in Pear Pizzazz, Mossy Meadow and Real Red.  I used Real Red 3/8″ Satin Woven Ribbon out of the Holiday Catalog and two strips of Champagne Glimmer Paper to dress it up.

Grid paper comes in handy when mounting photopolymer stamps.  It is easy to line up letters on grid paper.  After they are lined up and spaced properly, simply pick them up with a block.  This same method can be used to get border stamps mounted straight.

Festival of Trees for FabFri55

DSC_0365w

This card is a hodgepodge of product, and it was fun to put together.  I started with the sketch at Fab Friday.  While I had planned to use All is Calm Designer Paper, I ended up with just the color scheme.  The “Endless Wishes” snowflakes provided more than enough pattern.  Here’s the sketch…

I was also inspired by the large snowflake, but my trees take the place of the large snowflake and my snowflake is the accent button.  Make sense?  Doesn’t really matter, let’s just say it’s all there…and there’s more.  I also threw in ribbon, washi tape, twine and a button.  It’s a little busier than my norm, but so easy thanks to the coordinating products.

The picture doesn’t do justice to the sparkle of the elements.  I used Heat & Stick powder to add Dazzling Diamonds to the ornaments on the trees.  I also used Dazzling Diamonds glimmer paper for the snowflake and the accent strip.

Thanks for checking out my card.  You can see more entries for this challenge sketch at Fab Friday.

Tomorrow is the last day of the Online Extravaganza, and the second set of doorbusters is available today.  Check out the sale flyer below.
