Brutus Buckeye Curvy Keepsake Box

DSC_1408w

I don’t think there is another mascot that fits the Curvy Keepsake Box more perfectly!  I have been anxious to put this guy together since my dies arrived last week, and I finally got a chance this weekend.

I used Chocolate Chip for the base pieces, and punched an oval from Crumb Cake with the XL Oval punch.  The eyes are from the Owl Builder, and the nose is a circle from the retired Itty Bitty Shapes Punch Pack (measures about 3/8″).  His mouth is from a retired oval punch that measure 1 3/8″ x 5/8″.  His hat is a portion of a 1 3/8″ Smoky Slate circle, with a portion of an XL Oval Real Red brim.  So easy and fun!

The pom poms are made from fringed 1″x 4 1/4″ strips of each color – Real Red and Smoky Slate.  The little horseshoe field is made from the new Note Tag punch, stamped with “Draw the Line”.  The OH-iO and script Ohio stamps are not by Stampin’ Up!

This curvy keepsake box is really versatile – you will find tons of examples on the internet!  It makes a cute favor in any color, with any embellishments, and it makes so many cute characters.  The finished size is roughly a 2 1/2″ cube which sounds really small, but it holds more than you would expect.  To give you an idea, it holds up to 12 Hershey kisses or 5 mini Reeses cups.

Here is a look at the dies in this set:

Item 135853 Curvy Keepsake Box Thinlit   $32.95

To make one box, you cut two of the odd L-shaped piece and attach them together at the square bottom.  You can cut three of the base pieces from one 8 1/2″ x 11″ sheet of cardstock.

Have a great day!

Gingerbread Holiday Home for FMS156

DSC_1399w

I have an entry to get in by tomorrow’s deadline for the weekly challenge at Freshly Made Sketches.  The sketch made me think of a snow globe, which in turn made me think of my current favorite stamp set – “Holiday Home”.  I made a little gingerbread house by heat embossing with white powder on Early Espresso cardstock.  It goes well with the designer paper in the Trim the Tree stack.  Here is the sketch:

Fun Halloween Memo Pads

DSC_1386w

This project makes me happy because each set of note pads uses several patterns of designer paper from its respective designer paper collection, and I love the coordination!  These are 5″ x 8″ memo pads – the ones in the back row are made with a  retired Halloween paper, the front row uses this year’s Motley Monsters.  This is definitely a “use what you have” kind of project – we all have designer paper scraps laying around!

The stamps are also a mixed bag of old and new.  The stamp set for the creatures is the retired “Googly Ghouls” while the “BOO!” is one of this month’s Paper Pumpkin stamps.

Here’s a closer look:

DSC_1391w

The candy corn pattern that wraps the top measures 2″ x 5″.  The tags are punched with the new Note Tag punch (Holiday Catalog, p 13, Item 135860 $16.95).  The paper in the pen barrel is 3/4″ x 3 3/8″.  I added a tab so that the pen would stay with the pad.  The designer paper on the tab is 1″ x 4″ and the cardstock is 1 1/4″ x 4″.  I simply made a loop and attached it to the cardboard back.

Fall Fest for PP215

DSC_1385w

The sketch at The Paper Players was my inspiration for this card.  The layout provided a great way to showcase those little leaves from the Fall Fest bundle.  I added the chevron from “Work of Art” in Crumb Cake as a background, and the leaf colors are Crushed Curry, Cajun Craze and Blackberry Bliss.  The greeting is from “For All Things”.  Here is the sketch…

And finally, a card for today…

DSC_1371w

I make this simple pumpkin every year with the latest designer paper and accessories.  It is made with three Pumpkin Pie ovals from the XL Oval punch.  This year, I added a leaf from the Fall Fest bundle, and the designer paper is called Color Me Autumn.  I stamped the leaf in Mossy Meadow to coordinate with the ribbon-knot stem.

The greeting is from “Good Greetings” – this is the set you get free through October 31 with a $300 workshop or order.  It has some really great greetings for the upcoming holidays and year-round.  Check it out below.  If you would like to earn this, contact me to plan a workshop for your friends.  It is a great time of year to get together with friends to make some holiday projects!

Go Bucks!

DSC_1364w

Here’s a fun seasonal card, for the season called “Football” lol.  The Buckeyes were off last week, but they host Cincinnati tomorrow, so I thought this was appropriate.  This is also a Card Buffet card for next week’s class.  Please contact me if you would like to join us.  Click the Events tab on the menu bar for more info.

The OSU-themed stamps are not from Stampin’ Up!, but everything else is.  I used the new Note Tag punch from the Holiday Catalog for the horseshoe stadium and the new Tree punch for the megaphone.

Of course, the inside of the card finishes the sentiment…

Have a great weekend and Go Bucks!

Holiday Home in the Moonlight

DSC_1366w

The homes in “Holiday Home” are great for coloring, but you don’t have to color them.  For a quicker card, I stamped them on Basic Gray for this night scene.  They look cool and shadowy.  This card will be in next week’s Card Buffet.  Please contact me if you would like to join us.  More details under Events on the menu bar above.

Emboss Resist with The Newborn King

DSC_1370w

This month’s technique in Stamp Club was Emboss Resist, and this is the card we made.  The background is watercolored with an Aquapainter.  The scene from “The Newborn King” is heat embossed with white embossing powder on watercolor paper.  You can barely make out the scene at this stage, but it comes to life as you brush over it with color.  I used four colors on this card – Night of Navy, Lost Lagoon, Soft Sky and Pear Pizzazz.  I had one or two drops of each color in my palette, and that was plenty for this image.

I wanted the Nativity to be the focal point, so I heat embossed that portion of the image on a small piece of Silver Foil.  I cut it out with my Paper Snips.  The sentiment is stamped on Whisper White and cut out with a Project Life framelit – those shapes are great for greetings!

I have used watercolor pieces without embossing, too.  They make great backgrounds, as in the sample below (previously posted, click here for more details).

I added two characters to my Halloween Fry Box collection – the Count and Frankenstein.  I CASEd Frankenstein from Becky Roberts at Inking Idaho.

DSC_1349w

To make the hair for either, cut a 1 1/2″ strip of Basic Black on the Fry Box die at the top of the front flap.

DSC_1343

For Frankenstein, simply snip a ragged edge.  For the Count, make side-by-side punches with a 2″ circle punch to cut the shape.

These fry boxes are easy to construct, and a 4″x6″ cello bag fits nicely inside.  Here is my collection so far…I am sure there will be more for other holidays!
