Fab Friday with Blendabilities

#hello FabFri46

You can color the Back to Black designer series paper with Blendabilities, and the results are stunning!  You don’t have to stay in the lines, and the brilliant colors are intense and glassy against the black.  They seem illuminated, and the effect is like that of stained glass.  The colors in the current Fab Friday color challenge are perfect for this!

The stamp set is “#hello”, and the chevrons are from the Chevron Border Punch.  You can see more entries into this challenge at Fab Friday.

Have a great day!

The Open Sea

DSC_1114w

I love it when something old gets new life! That is the case here with “The Open Sea” stamp set which has been around for a while, though it is still current.  I paired it with this year’s Maritime designer series paper for a new look. It is one of my “go-to” sets for masculine cards, and I needed one for Card Buffet this week.

There are just a few days left in the Buy 3, Get 1 FREE deal on Designer Series Paper.  This applies to the papers on pages 186-187 of the Annual Catalog, including Maritime.  More details here.

Have a great day!

Sneak Peek Starburst

DSC_1111w

Sorry for running late today –  I was determined to make and post this card this week, but I didn’t get my moments for “peace & joy” until now!

As a follow-up to this month’s club, I made another starburst using designer paper from the upcoming Holiday Catalog.  The paper is called “All is Calm”, and it lives up to its name with its peaceful blues, greens and grays – namely Lost Lagoon, Soft Sky, Pear Pizzazz, Smoky Slate and Silver Foil.  The greeting is from the upcoming hostess set “Good Greetings.”

Wasn’t the star a fabulous idea for a starburst card?  I can say that without boasting because it wasn’t my idea!  While we were making my summery starburst in club on Sunday, Meghan brought up the idea of using a star as the center of the starburst.  Genius!!  And I just so happened to get some of this great new paper this week, so this was meant to be!

If you would like to see more details on the construction of the starburst, click here to go to Monday’s post.  Have a great weekend!

A Summer Treat

DSC_1106w

Nothing says summer like a slice of watermelon!  This one is made with the gingham circle from “Kind & Cozy”.  It fits the 2 1/2″ circle punch, and I added a 2″ circle of Strawberry Slush.  The seeds are punched from the cupcake punch (the little flame).   Fun, huh?  I first saw this punch art on a card by Janet Holmes.  Make a whole round without seeds first, and then cut it into slices – halves, quarters, whatever!  Then add seeds to the slices.

I would best describe this project as a treat portfolio.  Here is what it looks like opened up…

DSC_1108w

I CASEd my upline Mindy Gray to make this project.  She was passing out a floral version of this project at convention, made with “Flower Patch”.  It was super-cute, too, made on Hello Honey cardstock with Lullaby designer paper.  You can change this up for any season or occasion.  We made it at our Team Meeting the other night.

This is little – just right to make a favor with those new Ghirardelli minis!  The black cardstock is 6 1/2″ x 5″.  Score at 3″ and 3 1/2″ along the 6 1/2″ side, and score at 3″ along the 5″ side.  This creates a 3″ square portfolio that is 1/2″ thick.  The Whisper White mat is 2 3/4″ square and the DSP is 2 5/8″ square.  My tag is 2″ x 2 3/4″.

I made up a bunch of watermelon note cards, too.  Once you get started on these watermelon, it is hard to stop!

The vine is from “Bordering Blooms”.  Thanks for stopping by today!

Guest Stamper

I have a trio of cards to show today that were made by Mary Jane Ebie.  If you follow my blog, you have seen her beautiful work before, so you know you are in for a treat!

DSC_1055w

This first card uses Back to Black designer paper with stamps from the “Hello There” Hostess set.  See that sweet greeting?  It is from “Good Greetings”, a set that demonstrators were able to earn in June.  It will be a Hostess set later this year, and it has 19 good (I would actually say GREAT) greetings in the same font.  Most of the greetings are holiday-related, covering the fall holidays through Valentine’s Day.

DSC_1054w

This card uses “Endless Birthday Wishes” with Lullaby designer series paper.  “Endless Birthday Wishes” should continue to be very popular as was its predecessor “Endless Wishes” last fall.  “Endless Wishes” was the holiday version of this set, and it will be available again in this year’s Holiday Catalog.

DSC_1057w

The credit for the design of this circle spinner card goes to Martha McDonald.  She and Mary Jane made cards together after last month’s Stamp Club where the subject was spinner cards.  It is hugely rewarding to see a technique from club used in another way…and this is so clever!  The background is the “World Map” set, and the globe is from “Love You More” (from a Valentine promo earlier this year).  The stamped heart spins as it travels the track around the globe – so cute!!

I hope you enjoyed these cards – thank you to Mary Jane and Martha!

I also wanted to share another of this month’s Stamp Club cards.  This one also involves paper piecing.  The technique is Inlaid Diecutting.  You use the die cut shape along with the negative of the die cut to create a flat element.  The shape fits right down into the negative.  In the picture below, the glimmer paper stars fit into the same star shape that was removed from the circles.

DSC_1085w

I CASEd Amy Kunkle’s beautiful card which you can see here.  This card uses the Star Framelits, Back to Black designer paper, and a sentiment from “Be the Star”.

Starburst Hello

DSC_1083w

This was one of the projects we made in Stamp Club this weekend.  I wanted to showcase our designer series paper (DSP) since it is on sale this month.  The DSP sale includes all 8 patterns shown on pages 186-187 of the Annual Catalog – they are Buy 3, Get 1 Free.  I used the Flowerpot DSP collection on this card.

This card also follows the sketch at Freshly Made Sketches this week.

I followed Sharon Cheng’s starburst directions, included with her beautiful patriotic card (click here to see it).  I love this version of the starburst because it goes 360 degrees and leaves mat showing between the triangles.  Doesn’t that make the DSP pop?

This card looks so much more complicated than it is.  The rays are made from six rectangles of DSP, cut as shown below.  Since the triangles are different sizes, they are not interchangeable.  If you are using a different DSP collection, plan the long and short rectangles accordingly as you consider the patterns and colors.

DSC_1077w

Note that there are two Night of Navy mats –  3 3/4″ x 5″ and 4″ x 5 1/4″.  The DSP triangles should be attached to the smaller one, trimmed, and then matted on the larger one.

DSC_1078w

To start, mark a cross about 1 1/2″ from the left edge and 1 3/4″ from the top of the smaller mat.  Use that mark as a very rough estimate of where the triangles should converge.  Then arrange the triangles, making sure their corners all clear the edges of the mat.  Do not start attaching the triangles until you are happy with the arrangement.  Some triangles will overlap, some won’t quite reach the mark.  The center does not have to be neat because it gets covered up.

DSC_1080w

Use snail to adhere pieces to the mat.  Then flip it over (picture below) and use paper snips to cut the excess from the triangles, following the mat edges.

DSC_1082w

Simply mat the trimmed piece on the larger mat, attach to your card base, and add this great greeting from “#hello”.  The stamps in this set coordinate with the 2″ circle punch.

You know I love DSP projects – especially when they show off both sides of the paper – so you can only imagine how happy I am with this project that shows off so many coordinating pieces!

Have a great day!

You’re a Star

DSC_1086w

Isn’t this a fun sentiment for so many occasions?!  It could be a Thank You, Birthday, Congratulations, or Thinking of You.  We don’t have to use the traditional sentiments.  I made this card for the SUO challenge “Bows, Bows, Bows!”

The new 1/4″ cotton ribbon is thin, so it is easy to use on cards and easy to tie.  I thought I needed a little more width on this card, though, so I paired it with 3/4″ chevron ribbon.  There are several colors that are available in both of these ribbon styles.  This is Island Indigo.

My card base is Pool Party, and the stars and moon are stamped in Crushed Curry.  All of the stamps on this card are from “Pictogram Punches”.

You can see more entries in this challenge at SU-Only Challenges.
