Holiday Home for CCMC328

I was excited to see this week’s color challenge at Create with Connie and Mary – it is a color combination that I recently stumbled upon and liked.  In fact, I posted a card in Lost Lagoon and Cherry Cobbler earlier this month, but it did not include any Smoky Slate so I came up with something new.  Here are the colors…

http://www.createwithconnieandmary.com/.a/6a01310fc1b623970c01b7c6f88d37970b-pi

My original plan for this card involved a large bear and a blizzard – not really the stuff of greeting cards!  It didn’t work out, and I ended up going in a much more peaceful direction with “Holiday Home”…

My gift card holder is pretty simple, decorated with some classic holiday shapes.  The trees are punched from Trim the Tree designer paper, and the snowflakes are cut with the framelits in the Snowflake Card Thinlits Die.  I used Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper for the snowflakes, a new favorite of mine (and better in “real life” – the picture doesn’t do it justice!)  The designer paper is Nordic Noel.

The stamps are from “Cheerful Tags” and “Merry Everything” in the Holiday Catalog.

DSC_0278w

The gift card slides into a slot at the fold.  The card base is 4″x12″, scored at 5″, 6″, and 7″.  I used sticky strip to lock the extra fold of cardstock together at its outer edge only – this allows the gift card to slide into that fold.  I punched the slot for the gift card with two side-by-side punches of the Word Window.

A Card and a Dog

DSC_0272w1

First, the card…I made this yesterday with a group, and I think they were all impressed with how quick and easy it is to create beautiful wreaths with the “Wondrous Wreath” bundle.  We also talked about the great potential of this set for all seasons.  In this fall version, the card base is Soft Suede, and the “Hardwood” background stamp is also stamped in Soft Suede.  The wreath colors are Hello Honey, Cajun Craze and Blackberry Bliss.

And now, the dog…if you look closely in the above picture, you can see a furry black ear off to the right.  Let me zoom out a bit.

DSC_0272w2

As the Buckeye Inklings mascot, I guess Chip feels that he should make an appearance now and then.  He sat patiently posing while I took my shots today, so I thought I had better include him…

DSC_0274w

I am always flattered when he takes time from his busy nap schedule to be a part of the business.  His job is done now, and he is back on his blanket, fast asleep.  Have a great Monday!

November Greetings a la Carte

Here is the “menu” for this month’s Greetings a la Carte.  Most are held over from last month, and if you have another favorite from a recent class, please let me know – I may be able to accommodate you.  If you are already signed up, please let me know your selection(s).

This class is a Stamp-a-Stack where you create cards in groups of eight.  The price varies based on design, and each card comes with a Whisper White or Very Vanilla mat piece for the inside (with the exception of the gift card holder).  Dimensionals and envelopes are included, but please bring all other adhesives.

You can sign up for more than one design, or multiples of designs.  Remember, you are signing up to make groups of eight.  Depending on how many sets you choose, you may not be able to completely assemble them during the class time, but I will make sure you do the steps you need to complete with my supplies.

Greetings a la Carte sessions are next week, Tuesday and Thursday, November 11 and 13 at noon and 6pm each day.  Please contact me if you would like to join us.

Ornamental Pine

  Ornamental Pine 2

Today’s card is also a mixed CASE of a few ideas I have seen.  The great thing about this card is this…it is elegant and impressive without being complicated!  You could easily make a lot of these to send at Christmas.

This time I have the pinned samples of the CASE cards, so I know where I got the inspiration.  I loved Dawn Olchefske’s layered look that you can see here.  As she says, it is a variation of Triple Time Stamping, but with only two layers…so maybe we can call it Double Time?  I also loved Lisa Young’s card that you can see here.  My card is a mix of these two layouts.

You need two pieces of Very Vanilla to create this card front.  The sizes are 4″ x 5 1/4″ and 2 1/4″ x 3 1/2″.  These pieces need to be stamped with the pine bough at the same time.  To do this, layer the small piece on the large piece and attach them with temporary adhesive.

DSC_0255w

I use the grid paper as a guide – the small piece is about 3/8″ from each edge of the large piece.  Once these are in place, stamp the image and greetings.  I used the Mossy Meadow stamp pad to ink most of the pine bough, and then I added ink to the branch with my Early Espresso marker.

DSC_0256w

There will be a little gap in the image around the small piece – that is ok, the Mossy Meadow mat will cover it up.

That’s it!  Assemble the large piece onto the card front.  Add the small piece to a 2 1/2″ x 3 3/4″ Mossy Meadow mat and attach to the card.  I added a bow made with Cherry Cobbler Seam Binding and a pine cone stamped with Soft Suede on Crumb Cake.  I also added a touch of gold glitter to the pine cone.

Blog Candy Winner and Blooming with Kindness

I have a Blog Candy winner, chosen with the random number generator at random.org…

random

Congratulations to Barbara V!  I will contact you to get you your prize.  Thank you for playing!

For today’s card, I pulled out a set that I haven’t used in a while to make a sympathy card.

DSC_0251w

The flower is from “Blooming with Kindness” and while there are some nice sentiments in this set, I wanted this sympathy sentiment from “Petite Pairs.”  The layout is a CASE of a few ideas that I saw on Pinterest – a combination that just stuck in my head after pinning the other night.

Have a great day!

Festival of Trees for Just Add Ink #238

Festival of Trees for Just Add Ink #238

I liked the simple sketch this week at Just Add Ink, so I thought I would play along.  Here is the sketch…

I knew I wanted the circle to be broken up with the star punch, and then I couldn’t resist adding a strip of vellum embossed with stars.  Vellum looks really great embossed!  I tried to keep it simple like the sketch, with just some stars and trees in Night of Navy and Silver.  The trees are from “Festival of Trees” and the greeting is from “Endless Wishes”.  And yes, the garland on the tree is heat embossed in silver, as is the word “wishes”.  It’s hard to tell in the picture, but a little shiny embossing goes a long way!

You can see more entries in this challenge at Just Add Ink.

I posted the Weekly Deals separately this week so I wouldn’t clutter up the post for this entry.  Scroll past this post on the Home page to see them.  Also, don’t forget to enter my Halloween Blog Candy contest by tomorrow at noon to win “Good Greetings”.  Click here for more details or to enter.

Have a great day!

Holiday Makeovers

DSC_0236w

The easel card on the left was one of the favorites in last week’s Card Buffet.  It was designed by my upline, Mindy Gray.  We also came up with some great holiday ideas for this card type, and I made one with “Festival of Trees”.  I used stars, with the larger star propping up the easel, but we also talked about using presents under the tree.  A snowman or outdoor scene would work well too.  Thanks to Donna S. for suggesting this!

The base of this card is 4 1/4″x 5 1/2″, and the mats are 4″x5 1/4″ and 3 3/4″x5″.  The Whisper White for the stamped image is 3 3/4″x2″ with a 4″x2 1/4″ mat.  The arm that creates the easel is 4 1/2″x2 3/8″, scored at 2″ and 4 1/8″.

DSC_0237w

My second remake is also from Card Buffet.  I discussed it last week, and I had a chance to make it over the weekend.  I simply changed the designer paper and colors to get a holiday look.  The cardstock mat is a 4″ square.  The designer paper is 3 3/4″x1 1/2″ and the Whisper White is 3 3/4″x2 1/4″.

Don’t forget to enter to win the “Good Greetings” set by leaving a comment on Friday’s post.  You must leave your comment there to be entered.  Have a great Monday!
