Bravo for MOJO Monday

MOJO345

I love it when a card is simple!  I got my inspiration from this week’s sketch at MOJO Monday, and this Congrats card came together very quickly.  Here’s the sketch:

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-TgJwlq-n3uw/U2_tox1lChI/AAAAAAAATmQ/AUb5gBAFHNw/s1600/Mojo345.gif

I hope my rhinestones count as the horizontal element 🙂  I didn’t need any additional greeting, thanks to the big greeting from the set Bravo, which will be available June 2 from the new Annual Catalog.  That “Con-grat-YOU-la-tions” is one of my favorite new greetings.  It’s big and fun, so it’s a great sentiment for a focal point.

The circles are from the February Paper Pumpkin kit.  I stamped them in Wisteria Wonder, Pistachio Pudding, Soft Sky and Smoky Slate.  You could use another background stamp, and if you really want circles as shown here, make a mask for your stamp.

And just a little tip if you are wrapping your ribbon or twine around the whole card front, or even just the mat – cut a little notch with a circle punch or a hole punch to keep the ribbon where you want it.  This is an easy step that results in a more polished look.

You can see more samples for this sketch at MOJO Monday.

Endless Birthday Wishes

Remember the Endless Wishes photopolymer set that was available before the holidays last year?  With its countless greeting combinations and contrasting fonts, it was awesome!  It was fun and easy, and the results were great on even the simplest of cards.

DSC_0900w

Now we have a version for birthdays!  This was just announced, so I don’t have samples to show, but it comes with 27 stamps for $13.95 as shown on the pdf below.

Also, limited quantities of 2012-2014 cardstock colors are available, but only while supplies last.  They are $6.95 each.

Vivid Vases

DSC_0578w

I have colored this image before, but this time the colors are really vivid on the “Vivid Vases” image.  On previous samples, the image looked nice with subtle color from the blender pen.  The examples I posted before are shown below.

Sweet Sayings 3 Vivid Vases Watercolor

While I could have added more color to either of these, especially on the vases, I couldn’t have achieved the streak-free saturated colors I am showing today.  Today’s image was colored with our new line of Blendabilities markers.  They are pictured in the new Annual Catalog, and the skin tone assortment will be available with the release of the catalog on June 2.  The other color collections coordinate with our current colors, and they will be available shortly after the release of the catalog – I will keep you posted!

DSC_0581w

Here’s a closer look, and you can see how nicely the Coastal Cabana coordinates with the designer paper.  Each color comes in a pack of three shades, with one of the shades matching the color very closely.  The others two shades create the blended look.  I have a series of pictures below that show how I colored the vases.

DSC_0570

I started with the darkest color, applied on the dark side of the vases with a small circular motion.

DSC_0571

I added the medium color.

DSC_0572

Finally, I added the light color, on the side of the vase that faces my imaginary light source.  Note that you can see a line between colors, but within each strip of color, you don’t see strokes.

DSC_0573

Then, with the lightest color, I colored over all of the colors, blending most at that line between colors.

DSC_0574

If you are doing it right, here is what the back of your Whisper White cardstock looks like.  You will definitely want some scrap paper under your project as you do this.  This looks very wet, but even though you do color over the same area more than you could with a water-based marker, these alcohol markers do not damage or “pill” the cardstock.

DSC_0575

I thought my dark side wasn’t dark enough, so I went back over it with the dark shade and then blended the edge of the dark color, again using the light shade to blend.

DSC_0577

The last step was to add the little highlight with the Color Lifter.  The Color Lifter works a bit like an eraser, pulling color out of an area.

Once again, the finished image.

DSC_0581w

I did use two shades on the tulip and the daffodil, but I didn’t spend time blending on the flowers.  You can color with a single shade without the worry of brushstrokes on the small elements.  This will be especially great for faces done with the skin tones!!

Sea Street Sneak Peek

Sea Street

Sea Street wasn’t my first choice from the sneak peek products we could pre-order, but once I had it in hand I found it irresistible!  Some sets are like that.  Sometimes it takes a little hands-on play and/or inspiration from samples.  Aren’t the crab and lobster too cute?  I had to have them on my card!

The designer paper is called Maritime, and it has some great red, white and blue prints.  The greeting is from So Very Happy.  All of these products will be available from the new Annual Catalog on June 2.

My design was inspired by this week’s challenge at Freshly Made Sketches.

You can see more entries for this sketch at Freshly Made Sketches.  I see that I wasn’t the only one entering this challenge that was excited to use our new octopus!

Flowers on a Fence

DSC_0430w

We are already in love with the Petite Petals bundle, but how about the Hardwood stamp?  It makes a great background, but you can also cut planks from its stamped image.  I cut 1/2″ strips for my fence pieces, and nipped the ends with my Chevron Border Punch to make each slat pointed at the top.

DSC_0432w

Can you see two new things in this picture?  I used two products from the 2014-2015 Annual Catalog – the greeting from So Very Happy, and the color on the pearls, done with a Rich Razzleberry Blendabilities marker.  The markers are great for streak-free coloring, but they are also great for coloring the pearls and rhinestones, even with dark colors.

Have a great weekend!

Project Life for MOJO344

DSC_0419w

Have I mentioned the Project Life Everyday Adventure Card Collection?  Lol!  Now that I have fulfilled my promise to show you an actual scrapbook page (posted here), I feel that I can move on to another card.  I have not been able to resist thumbing through my box of Project Life cards as I work on projects.  That box is just so darn inviting!

I got my sketch from MOJO Monday.

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-rlkrUuxaTW0/U2bF0i_XhxI/AAAAAAAATkU/vKcK_pq8j7A/s1600/Mojo344.gif

The background piece printed with Pumpkin Pie leaves is from the Everyday Adventure Collection, and let me just warn you, the Project Life products are addictive!  I added my favorite greeting from Starburst Sayings, and the colors are Cherry Cobbler, Night of Navy, and Pumpkin Pie.

You can see more entries for this sketch challenge at MOJO Monday.

Have a great day!

Tbt with Project Life

I have two Project Life projects to show you today, but I am putting them into two separate posts so that the card that I am entering in a challenge will not get lost – it will be in the next post.  When I posted a Project Life card on Saturday (click here to see it), I promised I would use Project Life as designed the next time I showed it.  Throwback Thursday seems appropriate for that.

We are in “crunch time” for memory projects at my house.  I am compiling some memory books for Jen as we approach graduation.  I have not been the best scrapbooker (scrapper?) over these past 18 years, so I am getting some help now from Project Life and My Digital Studio.  Today, I would like to show you some pages I put together with my Project Life products.  These two pages went together in under 15 minutes.  The hardest part was deciding which of the cute cards to slip into the pockets alongside the pictures!

Project Life PLxSU 2

If I had to guess, the two most memorable days of my daughter’s high school career would be the day they advanced to States in Volleyball and the day they went to States.  I am including these picture pages in a scrapbook with pages of newspaper clippings about those games.  The bright picture pages steal the show!

Project Life PLxSU 1

Here is a closer look at the cards from the Everyday Adventure Collection that slip into the pockets.  I am going to have Jen write her thoughts on the card in the middle.

Project Life PLxSU 3

Here’s a look at another page type.  The pages with 4″ squares are exclusive to Stampin’ Up!  These collections provide instant gratification.  At our premier event, someone said that this is called “Project Life” because it frees up time so that you can live your life!

Project Life PLxSU 4

Here’s a closer look at these cards.  Again, I will have Jen fill in her thoughts on the lined card.  She can even add stickers as she pleases.  There are word bubbles, arrows, hearts and more.  The colors coordinate with our inks and papers, and here’s the best thing (imo)…every card is different!  No repeats!  I do believe I will be using every one of them in my pages or my other projects.  Since they match our color collections, I have already been using them on cards.

There is a limited group of Project Life products available now, ahead of the June 2 release of our full line.  Click here to see my previous post for those details, or use the Shop Now button to see them in the store.

Work of Art

Work of Art

Today I have a sneak peek at one of the sets I got in my preorder…Work of Art is a stamp set from the upcoming 2014-2015 Annual Catalog.  I have only used four of the eleven stamps on this card.  The set has so much potential, with stamps in several shapes that create the look of brushed watercolors.  The look of the brushstrokes is similar to those in Happy Watercolor from the Occasions catalog, but there are more options.  Can’t wait to play with it more!
